Wellness

20140328_125801Wellness is the Heart of What We Do

At Nash Animal Hospital, the wellness of your pet is our top priority. Whether it is time for a new puppy or kitten to join your family, or an adult pet that has been with you for years, we provide the comprehensive and compassionate care that they need. It is important to maintain preventative care for your pet throughout their entire life, and we will be there to help you.

We schedule each appointment just for you and your pet. We want to allow ample time to fully evaluate your pet and discuss any concerns that you may have. At each visit, your pet will receive a full wellness exam, evaluating them from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail. We will listen to your pet's heart and lungs, check their ears, mouth, and teeth, evaluate their vision and hearing, and check their abdomen, joints, and muscles. We'll ask you about their lifestyle, including current diet, medications, activity level, and behavior. All of this information will give us a comprehensive picture of your pet's overall health. From there we will recommend wellness care customized just for your pet.

Vaccines

Preventing a disease is much easier and much cheaper than treating the disease. While there are general recommendations for vaccines (for example, a current Rabies vaccine is required for all pets in most counties of Ohio) every pet is different, and their personal vaccine needs will be customized at each visit. Have they had a reaction to a vaccine in the past? Are they exposed to other pets frequently at dog parks or doggie daycare? Do you live in a more rural area where they are exposed to more wildlife? These questions and more will help us work with you to decide the best approach for protecting your pet.

Parasite Control

Did you know that your pet can pick up intestinal parasites by ingesting the feces of other animals, like rabbits or geese? It is also possible for your pet to have a parasite and not show any symptoms of being ill. As much as we diligently try to keep our pets protected, the unfortunate truth is that many pets still become infected by preventable parasites. How do we find out if your pet has an intestinal parasite? By performing an annual Intestinal Parasite Screening. We will also work with you to choose the best preventative options for your pet. What about external parasites, like fleas and ticks? Nobody likes fleas, especially your pets. Some pets can also have severe allergic reactions to flea bites. To keep this from happening to your pet, we will help you select a monthly flea and tick preventative.

Heartworm Disease - An ounce of prevention...

Heartworms are preventable! Yet they are still an extremely common and deadly parasite that is spread by mosquitoes. These parasites are currently found in all 50 states. Heartworm Disease is very expensive to treat, and affects dogs AND cats, even those that are indoor only! During your annual wellness visit, we will discuss the variety of preventative products available and help you select the best option for you and your pet. As a bonus, most heartworm preventatives also have additional dewormers that will prevent intestinal parasites.
